The European Coordination Committee for Human Rights Documentation (ECCHRD)

26th meeting, Vienna, Austria - May 22-23, 2003

Dear friends and colleagues,

We have the pleasure of inviting you to participate in the 26th meeting of the European Coordination Committee on Human Rights Documentation (ECCHRD). As you probably know, the ECCHRD organises an annual meeting for information workers and documentalists of human rights organisations based in Europe. The aims of the 26th meeting are:

a. to discuss new and relevant themes of common interest, both with regard to the context of human rights documentation work as well as issues of particular interest to information workers and documentalists;
b.to share experiences in doing documentation and information work on a daily basis;
c.to develop strategies for collaboration on specific themes and in response to new technological opportunities.

As previously announced, the 26th meeting will be held in Vienna, Austria. The local organiser is Cathrin Lariminan (European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia). The meeting will be held at the Hotel Ibis (1060 Vienna, Mariahilfer Gürtel 22-24), this location is very close to the Railway Station Westbahnhof. The hotel also offers rooms for a special seminar price, 70 Euro (75 USD) per night.

The draft agenda for the 26th ECCHRD meeting is available on this website. In case you have any suggestions on the agenda please let the ECCHRD Secretariat know.

Market Place
On the second day of the meeting, Friday the 23rd, we have put a Market Place on the agenda. The Market Place gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your database or cd-rom to a smaller group of partcipants. If you want to give a demonstration of your database or cd-rom, please indicate this on the registration form. Since there is only one connection to the internet available in the meeting room, we suggest that you prepare your presentation in Powerpoint.

Hotel
It is hard to find (affordable) accomodation in Vienna in May. The Hotel Ibis, where the meeting will be held, can offer a limited number of rooms for a special seminar price of 70 Euro (75 USD) for a single room per night including breakfast. On the registration form it is also possible to sign in for other hotels in two price-categories; 50-70 Euro (53-74 USD) and 70-100 Euro (74-107 USD). The Secretariat will allocate rooms to participants wishing to stay in one of these hotels on a first come-first served basis.
The Secretariat regrets that it can not assist those who register late (after 21 March 2003) with making hotel reservations. However, Cathrin Larimian will be able to recommend alternative hotel choices.

Wiener Heurigen
Cathrin Larimian will organise a dinner in a Wiener Heurigen, this is a typical Viennese wine place where they serve excellent wines and simple but good meals. Dinner at the Wiener Heurigen will be on Thursday evening. The costs of the dinner are approximately 15-20 Euro (16-21 USD) (wine included). Please indicate on the registration form if you want to attend this typical Viennese evening.

Registration
You can register for the meeting by filling out the online registration form (preferred) or by filling out the registration form attached to this message. Please confirm your participation with the Secretariat before Friday, 21 March 2003. Please note that all costs related to travel and hotel have to be borne by the participants themselves. No funding is available from the Secretariat or the local organisers. There is no registration fee.

Additional and practical details about the venue, the final agenda and the list of participants will be sent in the second or third week of April, to those who have registered. We are looking forward to seeing you all at the 26th meeting in Vienna!

Yours sincerely,
The ECCHRD Secretariat,
